Home made fruit fly trap

Home made fruit fly trap

Now I must thank my 3 year old son for this discovery. he woke up at some ungodly hour last week, and fixed himself some “breakfast” by putting some licorice in one of those diet shakers and half filled it with water.

My wife noticed the little Fruit fly that have inundated our house recently were going crazy for it. We have left it out and it has been a fruit fly killing machine, they are climbing in the holes in the top  becoming trapped and falling in the water.

Freezing Basil.

With the recent rain my basil plants shot up and started to flower, to try and prolong the plants I cut them all back and was left with a lot of basil so decided to preserve the leaves by freezing.

Place the leaves in a food processor with a couple of table spoon of olive oil and pulse to a fine consistency.

Transfer to a Ice cube tray and freeze then store in a zip lock bag. They can then be used soups, curries and pasta sauces at a later date.
